ASSET: Archive Sector Enterprise Training (ASSET) Project
Project Aim and Objectives
The aim of the ASSET project is to provide archive sector professionals with skills necessary to contribute to achieving the BFI Film Forever strategic priority 'Unlocking the UK's Film Heritage'.
The objectives of the course are:-
- To strengthen business skills within the archive sector, particularly those necessary for monetising digital content.
- To provide improved skills in digital asset management.
Course participants will have become better able to contribute towards wider access the UK's archive content and appreciate its value and potential. Businesses in which course participants work will be more resilient and able to grow through identifying and exploiting opportunities existing in digital archives.
Course participants will gain:-
- business skills specifically applicable to the archive sector
- an in-depth knowledge of current digital asset management techniques
- an appreciation of commercial opportunities existing around the digitisation of archives
- expertise on the monetisation of digital content
Modules
The course will consist of a number of two-day taught modules delivered by recognised experts in the field, between October 2015 and March 2016.

Employability Skills for a Career in the Archive Sector
All modules includes:
- 2 days training module
- Welcome pack
- Any hardcopies of handouts that you will require.
- Training bag, pad and pen
- Refreshments and Lunch at the venue
- Course materials will be placed on an online platform.
- Networking dinner and wine at an exciting London restaurant.

The module will be taught by Pam Fisher, Head of Research and Development at BAFTA / Media Institute, UCL.

Module 2: Moving Image Archives: The Film to Digital Transition

The module will be taught by Sue Malden, Chair of FOCAL International and guest speakers.

Module 3: Intellectual Property Rights for Moving Image Archives

Module 5: Monetising Digital Content

This module will be on Business models for archive exploitation, identifying opportunities arising from digital archives, innovative commercial uses for archive material, chargeable outlets and using case studies demonstrating examples of success and failure and will be held on the 9th and 10th March in BECTU Education and Training rooms, London, Clapham Road.
The module will be taught by Paul Maidment from Kite Media.
